Thanksgiving 2013

I always think the summer and holiday season are the quickest parts of the year, but the fall 2013 has absolutely flown by. After returning from our wonderful trip to Austin, we jumped back into work and planning Thanksgiving, which we hosted. We were lucky enough to have my mom, dad and brother, Mike’s mom, step-dad, brother and his brother’s girlfriend join us for our first Thanksgiving in our new home. Here’s how it went down …

IMG_4077My mom is one of the best flower-arrangers I know, so I put all the knowledge she’s passed on to me to create this centerpiece for our Thanksgiving table. I loved how it came out!IMG_4078Probably everyone’s favorite dish from Thanksgiving was this rustic apple tart made with homemade pie crust and local macoun apples. It.was.amazing.IMG_4082Mike and I got dressed bright and early on Thanksgiving morning to run the Gobble Gobble Gobble Four-Miler in Davis Square. It was a really fun race and I notched a new PR! Four miles in 28 minutes and 39 seconds. Very exciting!IMG_4087Brothers looking sharp for Thanksgiving.IMG_4097We loved opening up our new home to our family to celebrate Thanksgiving. It was a really special day.IMG_4112We hadn’t all been together in way too long, so we snapped some family photos throughout the day.IMG_4113John’s girlfriend Priya, Mike’s brother John, Mike and my brother Michael sampled some festive holiday beers while dinner cooked.IMG_4115The bird! We got a fresh, local turkey again this year and it was so delicious. I don’t really eat much meat these days, but I had some of this and it was outstanding. Plus I love supporting our local farms.IMG_4126My plate: roasted vegetables, turkey, homemade cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, acorn squash, ginger pear bread, stuffing and mushroom gravy. All made by me except the stuffing, which Muzzy made. It was all so good.IMG_4134Love this photo of our family!IMG_4141I really can’t say enough how nice it was to all be together.IMG_4142Sibling love!IMG_4152Some of us had to lay on the floor to make room for dessert.IMG_4155Pumpkin pie with homemade crust was so silky smooth.IMG_4157The table all ready for the big feast. It was really fun to open up the table to seat the whole family.IMG_4163After the Thanksgiving festivities were over, I spent Saturday working at the Somerville Local First Local is for Lovers Holiday Market. I’m the board of the organization and it was terrific to see so many people shopping local this holiday season. If you’re local, stop by our second market on Sunday, December 22 at the Arts at the Armory in Somerville!IMG_4166We kept up our annual tradition of cutting down our Christmas tree on Sunday. I think it’s the best one ever, as always.photo (22)We decorated the tree on Sunday night and had such fun looking at all of our ornaments, especially these vintage ones that used to belong to Mike’s grandparents.photo (23)I hope you had a great Thanksgiving full of food, fun and family. And now, onto the next holiday!
