30

It’s official: I turned 30 last Thursday. I know a lot of people are upset about this milestone birthday, but I’ve never felt better or been happier. I had a co-worker at my first job who told me she loved turning 30 and being in that decade because she felt like her true self. At age 22, I thought she was insane. Now, I totally get what she was talking about.

IMG_4726I woke up to for a birthday run on a beautiful morning and found this sweet card that Mike made me waiting on the counter.

IMG_4728After getting properly adorned for the day (Bruins shirt, bow), I opened some presents and sipped coffee.

IMG_4738For dinner on my birthday we dined at Life Alive, one of my absolute favorite restaurants, where I got my favorite dish (Goddess Bowl) and kombucha. Afterward we got ice cream (peanut butter chip) from Christina’s and cheered the Bruins on to victory against Montreal.

IMG_4763We drove up to my parents’ house in New Hampshire on Friday to spend time with them before I ran the Big Lake Half Marathon the next morning. And despite the bad weather (chilly, rain), I managed to pull off a HUGE PR (1:36:49, five minutes better than my previous time)!

IMG_4744I was rewarded with being the fifth female finisher overall and won my age group! I got a giant bottle of maple syrup as a prize.

IMG_4765The best part about accomplishing a huge goal at the race was having my favorite guy waiting at the finish line!

IMG_4766And having my parents there made it extra sweet. We celebrated with a delicious breakfast at a local diner.

IMG_4777After getting cleaned up and relaxing during the afternoon, we got dressed up for my big blowout birthday dinner.

IMG_4779I chose to go to O Ya, a highly rated Japanese restaurant in Boston, for my special meal. And it was warm enough to wear a dress with no sleeves!

IMG_4757We dined on 20 incredible courses, had the best service and amazing beverages. The meal was so special and I know I’ll never forget it.

IMG_4783Sunday ended up being the most gorgeous day of the year so far and we knew we had to take advantage of it. We packed up a picnic, hopped in the BMW (with the top down) and headed over to the Arnold Arboretum for the Lilac Festival.

IMG_4786Lilacs are my absolute favorite flower and finally getting to enjoy this festival on such a beautiful day was so fun.

IMG_4788I wish this had smell-o-vision.

IMG_4791Seriously cannot thank Mike enough for making sure I had the best birthday ever. So far, 30 and I are getting along just fine.
