How is it already mid-July? The season I longed for all during the cold, frigid winter seems to be flying by way too fast so I’m doing my best to soak it up as much as I can.
After that sweaty run, Mike, Michael (who had flown in from D.C.) and I high-tailed it out of the city to spend July 4th weekend on the lake with muzzy and dad. It was a beautiful day when we arrived and I spent the afternoon floating in the lake. Heaven!
Unfortunately on the actual Fourth we were feeling the effects of a hurricane, so it was pretty rainy. The bad weather allowed everyone to get in some much-needed R&R though, so the day wasn’t a total loss.
After spending so much time making our backyard beautiful this year, Mike and I really wanted to have a big BBQ with all of our friends. We ended up hosting 35 (!) people for dinner last Saturday on the most gorgeous summer evening. Mike made a brisket in the smoker, I made a ton of sides and desserts and everyone had a fantastic time. It was so fun to have so many of our friends at our home to celebrate the summer. (That’s me and my friend Julie who grew that gigantic zucchini and gifted it to us!)
We’ve wanted to get to the beach all summer, but hadn’t had a day to go yet. That all changed last Sunday when we started our day with a workout (me), breakfast at our favorite cafe (3 Little Figs) and then headed to Crane Beach. We ended the day with a lovely summer dinner (home-shucked oysters, grilled swordfish, leftover BBQ sides). All in all, the perfect summer day!
