Birthday Boy

This is a big week in our house. It’s our three-year wedding anniversary tomorrow and Mike turns 30 next Tuesday. We have so many fun celebrations planned and already kicked things off last weekend with a visit to Mike’s mom and step-dad’s house in upstate New York.

IMG_5237We arrived on Friday evening and had a nice dinner at home while catching up on what everyone’s been up to. And we ended the night with a delicious carrot cake with lemon glaze that Beth made.

IMG_5241It was so nice to see Beth and Billy to celebrate Mike’s big birthday and get away for a few days.

IMG_5244On Saturday morning I went for my weekly long run around the neighborhood and the rest of the crew went golfing at the Edison Country Club, where Beth and Billy are members. I met them for lunch on the patio after spending the morning sipping coffee and catching up on some reading. It was so relaxing!

IMG_5245After lunch Mike and I went for a nice long walk along the Mohawk River. And after resting up a bit, we all got dressed for dinner at a local Italian restaurant. We had a little trouble with the service at first, but eventually it was straightened out and we had a very nice meal.

IMG_5252Sunday dawned beautifully and after a run and breakfast, Mike and I hit the road to head north to Saratoga Springs to spend the day at the racetrack.

IMG_5253We’ve been together for nine years and this has been on our list of things to do pretty much since the beginning. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect summer day to enjoy the track and had so much fun learning about the horses and placing some small bets.

IMG_5263We didn’t win big (hence why we both went back to work on Monday ;-), but we won a bit and more importantly, had so much fun. After a few hours we decided to head home and after battling some epic traffic, made it in time to enjoy our favorite meals from Life Alive for dinner.

The weekend away was just what we needed to unwind and relax after a hectic summer. And we plan to keep the fun going with more anniversary and birthday celebrations this week and next!

Updated 9/5/14: I stumbled across these gems while getting some photos from Mike. Yes, Arthur is enormous … and mostly friendly!
